On 22 November, we will once again commemorate Holodomor Remembrance Day in Auckland, as part of the global remembrance of the millions of Ukrainians who died during the man-made famine.
The event will include a candlelighting ceremony and a flashmob featuring personal and family stories connected to the Holodomor.
Event overview:
1. Holodomor Remembrance Gathering:
We invite everyone to join us and bring a candle for a symbolic candlelighting. Together we will “shine a light” (#ShineALight) on the history of the Holodomor and raise awareness of this tragedy.
Ukrainian community members & friends of Ukraine are welcome.
2. Flashmob & Story Sharing:
Participants with Ukrainian origins are invited to join the flashmob and share family stories related to the Holodomor. Stories may be about experience, survival or loss, and can be submitted in Ukrainian, English, or russian.
This is also an opportunity for people outside Auckland to take part—you do not need to attend the event in person to participate in the flashmob.
